Baby Rockers

These programs are currently being run at childcare centres and schools only.

Baby Rockers is a pre-dance music and movement program designed for babies aged 6 months – 1.5 years. Children do not need to be crawling or walking to participate.

Each week children are taken on a new and exciting adventure, where there is a balance of familiarity and novelty to enable the creation of meaningful connections. Through musical activities and the use of props and other educational resources, the sessions concentrate on introducing, and thereafter establishing foundations in the following key areas of development –

Physical –

  • Connecting words with actions e.g. clap, stamp, hop etc
  • Introducing balance and coordination
  • Using their sense of sight, touch and hearing to explore different sensory experiences
  • Mirroring actions and movements
  • Spacial awareness –Becoming familiar with the concepts of over, under, around, forwards, backwards, sideways

Social Skills – 

  • Cooperation and collaboration – participating in group activities with parental involvement and guidance
  • Turn-taking and patience

Music and Instruments – 

  • Music familiarisation
  • Rhythm – using instruments in time with the beat.

Imagination – 

  • Introduction of very basic imaginative play
  • Introduction of free movement to music

Cognitive Skills – 

  • Following basic instructions with support and guidance
  • Recognising cause and effect
  • Gradually increasing attention spans


Learning about our world – 

  • Identifying important items and concepts that exist in their worlds such as colours, numbers, shapes, animals, family members and modes of transport
  • Identifying their body parts

Parent/carer participation

You don’t have to know how to walk to be able to dance!

Please dress in comfortable clothing and be ready to dance, imagine and learn with your Baby Rocker!

Children are encouraged to be actively involved in their own learning.
